Groningen as a cycling city

Wierde van Ezinge

Groningen is seen internationally as an example of a bicycle-friendly city, where a film is always shown of an intersection, where cyclists get the green light at the same time: You drive out of the city to Garnwerd through a ancient mound landscape, which was created by man. In Ezinge stands the wierde (mound) with the Museum Wierdenland. Ezinge is known for the excavations that archaeologist Albert van Giffen of the University of Groningen carried out here from 1923 to 1934. Here the remains of 85 farms and 60 outbuildings from the period 600 BC to the 5th century AD were found.
